Industry studies have found that trash cans contain 411 million bacteria per square inch on average.

Welcome To South Bay Can Cleaners

South Bay Can Cleaners trash can cleaning service is a local, family-owned business founded by longtime Manhattan Beach locals/ neighbors/ friends, Shane and Tim.  Our kids were born and raised here, and we love the South Bay for the same reasons you do.  As a result, our goal is to protect and enhance the environment that makes our towns so special.  And that is the reason we created South Bay Can Cleaners.

We can all agree that it is super nice here. The weather is nice. The beaches are nice. The people, neighborhoods, schools and houses are nice. Even the dogs are nice, except for Shane’s middle dog, Charlie.

What’s definitely not nice are the trash cans. We basically live on top of them, with some being in the garage and others being outside alongside the house. Wherever any of our cans are, they certainly aren’t far – and they stink. Most trash cans are awful and serve as a breeding ground for flies and as an attractant for rodents. Not to mention they are covered in harmful bacteria and germs.

A 2007 study conducted by Lysol determined trash cans contain more than 411 million bacteria per square inch on average including E. coli, salmonella and listeria.

Why Use A Trash Can Cleaning Service?

Dirty trash cans are a breeding ground for harmful germs, bacteria viruses and pests. Any of the above can pose health risks to you, your family, your neighbors and/or your employees. And they stink (the cans)! South Bay Can Cleaners uses specifically designed equipment, eco-friendly and ocean-safe processes and solutions to remove dirt, grime and waste. And we kill potentially harmful  germs, bacteria and viruses while we’re at it. Our trash can cleaning service will leave your cans clean and hygienically safe.
Disinfecting trash cans can be a time-consuming, messy task. You want them clean, but do you actually want to lift the lid, get down in there and scrub them? Are the kids able to do it? And do you want them using dish soap and a squirrelly hose to battle filth and germs? Or try to get rid of  e-coli, salmonella, listeria and/or influenza? What will you do with the soap, water and whatever you’re trying to clean off  the cans when you’re done?
Click the button below to enroll in our trash can cleaning service, and go surf instead. We’ll get your cans clean, make them nice again and take everything with us. No solvents or chemicals, no runoff to the neighbors’ houses, beach or the environment.

Our Story

Smelly trash cans have always been a hot topic during neighborhood street chats/cocktails, and everyone has a breaking point.

Tim’s came the day he trapped the 12th possum in his garage, chased a raccoon away from the cans and got vertigo looking into his recycling bin.  He’d had enough. So he mixed bleach, dish soap, hot water, mentos, and Pepsi (no mentos, but glad you’re still reading), into the cans.  Cranking up the pressure to hose it all out, he naturally wound up spraying it all back on himself. Tim subsequently scrubbed the cans, and dumped them in the sunny street to dry off and wrap it up.  Unfortunately, he then watched a river of maggots and doggie bag contents flow past his neighbor’s kids playing in the yard. It kept going – into the storm drain next and down to the ocean where his boys were surfing.  One problem solved, one more created. If only there was trash can cleaning service to handle this so he could go surf instead!

Shane’s cans are jammed into a three-foot setback alongside his house, directly below his dining room and kitchen windows.  One day one of his cans had so many maggots the entire bottom of the can moved in unison. We all know what happened next, that can subsequently became the launchpad for a blitzkrieg of flies into the kitchen.  The camouflage salt gun and electric fly zapper were no match.

South Bay Can Cleaners was born to deal with a nasty and consistent problem that no one wants to deal with. Being a Manhattan Beach based trash can cleaning service, we also prioritize our largest and most important neighbor – the ocean.  We designed and built a truck that cleans and actually disinfects trash cans. No chemicals, soaps or solvents – just super-hot/high-pressure water that kills germs, eliminates odors and reduces vermin attraction. We capture the water from the cleaning process and take it away to be processed in an environmentally friendly manner.  Our process is safe for the kids, pets, environment (most importantly the ocean!), and neighborhood.  At the end of the cleaning process, we leave your cans curbside clean, fresh and nice to live with again!
